Reformer Pilates - Frequently Asked Questions

  • Reformer Pilates is a whole-body workout. It is designed to improve strength and boost flexibility, balance, posture and coordination. The reformer is a bed-like machine that moves back and forward and features functionalities (i.e. springs) to increase resistance as you work out.
  • The Perth HPC has a hybrid offering which includes face-to-face classes led by an instructor and Virtual classes which are regularly scheduled utilizing the Your Reformer catalogue of classes.  These classes are scheduled by the team and will be updated regularly to provide members with a varied experience.
  • We utilize the Your Reformer catalogue of classes which caters for beginners through to advanced (which currently has over 20 different class styles and more than 650 videos). Classes are streamed on the televisions located around the studio and participants follow the instructor on the screens. All classes are pre-selected by our team and will start at the allocated time indicated in the timetable. Classes will be regularly reviewed and rotated through so as to keep everyone motivated. If you have a particular instructor or class you really like make sure to let the team know so we can do our best to make the classes enjoyable.
  • The Reformer Pilates membership is an add-on to an existing Health and Fitness (H&F) membership (i.e. there is no stand-alone Pilates membership).

Full Reformer Pilates add-on allows a member to attend 2 face-to-face classes per week plus unlimited virtual classes (note that if the face-to-face 2 classes per week are not used they do not accumulate). The cost of the face-to-face add-on is $35 per week in addition to your H&F membership.

Virtual Pilates add-on allows members to attend unlimited scheduled virtual classes. The cost of the virtual add-on is $20 per week, in addition to your H&F membership.

Please refer to Health and Fitness T&Cs for information on suspension and cancellation.

  • You will need to do an induction class which are scheduled in the timetable prior to booking any face-to-face class or virtual class.

If you are a virtual only member, you will be sent a link to view the safety video and you must view and acknowledge you have understood the safety requirements.

  • Yes, you will still need to do an induction class as every studio has different equipment, procedures and policies, this also gives you the opportunity to ask any questions before launching into your Pilates practice.  We want you to be fully informed so you can get the most out of your classes and also very importantly stay safe.
  • Consistency is key, the 2 times per week for face-to-face supplemented by 1 to 2 virtual classes is an ideal amount.  However, even if once a week is all you have time for you will still get benefits.  The beauty of having access to the numerous virtual classes will make scheduling your practice so much easier.
  • If you are pregnant or dealing with an injury that may affect your class, we strongly recommend you attend a face-to-face session. This helps prevent any strain or injury and ensures you can train safely, the virtual classes are not designed to support these specific needs. If in doubt, please speak to an instructor about which style of class would be best suited.
  • Comfort is key, your clothing should allow you to move and stretch, we do prefer that you wear tighter fitting pants and tops so that they don’t hang or move in a manner that obstructs the instructors view of your form and potentially get caught on the equipment. You will be required to wear grip socks for both safety and hygiene reasons. If you do not have grip socks they can be purchased from either the gym or main receptions.
  • Yes, you will need to book all your classes in advance including virtual.  If the class you want is full you can add yourself to the waitlist (we currently allow a maximum of 5 people on the wait list). If a place becomes available, you will be notified by both SMS and email once you have been added to the class. You can be added into the class from the waitlist up to 30 minutes prior to the class commencing. If you no longer want to be added to a class that becomes available, please log into your Customer Portal and remove yourself from the waitlist.
  • If you cannot attend a class you may cancel that booking free of charge and for the capped face-to-face classes that cancelled class will become available for you to use within the same week. We request you to cancel within 1 hour of the class commencing to enable another member on the wait list the opportunity to attend. If you have trouble cancelling through the Customer Portal please reach out to the Gym Reception by either email or phone (08 9441 8259).
  • We request that every participant wears suitable clothing as well as grip socks for classes. At the conclusion of your class please return any props to their storage containers next to each bed and ensure all springs are placed back.

Cleaning supplies are located at the entry to the studio and every participant needs to thoroughly wipe down their reformer bed to ensure that it is clean for the next class.

  • The Reformer studio is fitted with CCTV which will be monitored by reception staff. Duress alarms will be installed in the coming months for use during Virtual classes. In the meantime, staff will be present.

Emergency response plans will be clearly displayed.
